Miss California Controversy
If you haven't seen it already, attached above is Miss California's controversial response to a question posed by Perez Hilton during the Miss USA pageant. The clip above is O'Reilly factor's segment regarding the incident. This story has literally been on every media channel I've been on today: the Today Show, the Talk Radio Show in the morning, the News, and front headlines when browsing on the Internet.
Regardless, I would like to simply comment on what the real issues are at hand:
1.) Perez Hilton loves Attention.
Entertainment blogger and so-called celebrity journalist, Perez Hilton is simply soaking up the PR. It's controversial, it's getting the USA pageant ratings, and he's probably receiving an all time high in website traffic. Here's a message to you Perez: congratulations, you almost made yourself a respectable journalist by stepping into the political realm.
2.) Miss California, wrongfully judged.
Public officers, entertainers and even athletes all have an obligation to be a role-model to their respective admirers or people they serve. Sometimes, taking the middle ground on taboo or political issues is necessary to ensure they are politically correct/sensitive. I understand that, especially in the Miss USA pageant. However, she's was wrongfully judged:
a.) First, I applaud her personal strength and integrity to rightfully respond what was on her heart. She could have belted a generic "end world hunger" or something cliche. She did not, and it was certainly admirable.
b.) Secondly, everyone is entitled to an opinion. Believe it or not (for you left wingers out there), President Obama does NOT believe in gay marriage (he does in civil unions), as he has mentioned many times before.
3.) Right Wing Sweetheart Attacked, Left Wing Sweethearts Defended:
Here's what I don't understand (allow us to turn the tables a bit), when a left wing sweetheart (let's pick Hillary Clinton or First Lady, Michelle Obama) were ever to say anything controversial to the opposing sector, the liberal media are the first to defend and sympathize.
I'm completely disturbed when conservative individuals are brought in similar events (for example, Miss California, and even Governor Sarah Palin), the media is set to kill. Its similar to reverse-discrimination.
4.) In conclusion...
...I'm merely an avid blogger, and if I so choose to favor one-side or the other, it's certainly my prerogative and I choose this as my channel to express myself. Certainly, I keep in consideration that it's respectful and in good taste. Miss California, with all consideration she was competing for a public title, had every right to express her true feelings without having to be persecuted and publicly attacked by the Gay community.
